Sam and Greg

Western Australia, Country

Greg and I had been shopping around for an engagement ring for about a month. They were all beautiful rings but none of them was really what I liked. A few weeks later Greg came home from work, he said to me that he had a surprise for me. Well….I got extremely excited after he said that because I knew what would be coming. Greg went outside and a few minutes later he was back. He reached into his pocket and handed me a receipt. I read it and he had put a dryer on lay by for me at retravision hahaha. Not what I was expecting but I was happy because I had been wanting a dryer for a long time (mind you i still don’t own one!) Then a few minutes later after everyone had left I was in the lounge room watching tv. Greg came in knelt in front of me and pulled out a box from his pocket. Will you marry me?? He said. I was shocked!! I said yes straight away and through the tears of joy I asked him about the dryer. "Nah I didn’t get ya one I knew that you’d be expecting the ring so I tricked ya so it would still be a surprise when I did propose" It was definitely a surprise!! And the ring he picked out was one I had seen, but had not tried on my finger. It was a perfect fit, he chose it by himself :-)

Queensland, Brisbane

My boyfriend thought it would be a great idea to propose to whilst sky diving. My boyfriend and I both love to experience thrill seeking activies, unfortunately i have a fear of heights. My fiance informed me that we were to embark upon an exciting adventure whereby we would literally jump out of an aeroplane on our own.

At first I didnt believe that sky diving services would actually allow anybody with limited or no experiece to conduct a solo jump. I was wrong. My wonderful resourceful boyfriend had found a company that did just that. On 1 December 2007, my boyfriend and I got into the car and drove to Gatton. We participated in a training session that consisted of numerous exercises such as how to jump off and land correctly and what to do when you parachute fails.

At this point in time I was ready to run. I did not feel comfortable jumping out of an aeroplane on my own. I relayed my fear to my boyfriend who told me that I would be fine and everything would be okay. I told my boyfriend that I would prefer to do a tandem jump with qualified instructor, however my boyfriend insisted that all would be fine. We climbed into the plane and ascended into the sky. The plane was so small. We looked liked sardines packed in a can. At 3000 feet, the instructor told my boyfriend to prepare for the jump. I was to follow. My heart was pounding. I was secretly hoping that my boyfriend would chicken out, unfortunately he didnt.

The door to the plane was opened and my boyfriend climbed out onto the wing. For those who have never been stupid enough to jump out of a plane, you are required to climb out onto the wing, hang by your arms and let go when directed to. My boyfrined attempted this, however he forgot the hanging part. He fell out of the plane, and as he fell he hit the side of the plane. This sent the plane lurching sideways. The instructors went into panic mode because they thought he had hit his head. I did what girls do best and turned into a sobbing mess. Finally my boyfriend was in sight and his parachute was safely carrying him back to earth. Now it was my turn.

I started to climb out on to the wing, my heart hammering loudly. I looked out and could not distinguish anything from the sky. The instructor beckoned for me to jump, instead I decided it would be safe if i fainted and got out of it. So that is what I did. I fainted. Meanwhile, my boyfriend had organised for a huge sign, Thick PVC to be made, containing the words MARRY ME VANESSA. I was supposed to land on this sign. When he and the staff members realised that I was not jumping, my boyfriend picked up this 5 metre long sign and sprinted 500m across the oval to the landing strip where I would be landing in the plane. The staff members held the sign up for me as the plane touched down.

I groggily stared out the plane door, reading the sign. My boyfriend came to the plane and helped me out. As I stood there in awe, he got down on his knee and presented a beautiful engagement ring. I managed a weak yes to his question and everyone cheered. So this is the story of how we fell in love and decided to become husband and wife.
