I was nervous all day while Steve was at work. It was Feb 9th 2008. I had bought his ring had it resized and went over and over of how I was going to propose to him. When Steve arrived home from work I was a wreck, he went and laid down and I just lay next to him talking dribble.

Finally I plucked up the courage (from goodness knows where) and got on my knees and asked him if he would marry me and produced the ring. He said “marry you” and all of a sudden I thought OMG hes going to say no. Then he grabbed me and said “of course I will”. We have set our date for May 1, 2009.

Marriage Proposal – Cate King & Shanyn Catanzariti July 28, 2008

I think every girl dreams of the perfect romantic proposal but after 2 kids, a rather tight morgage and almost 7 event filled years together the romantic side of it all starts to get a bit fuzzy. Don’t get me wrong I still expected Shanyn to do the traditional things like ask my fathers permission to marry me and get down on one knee (sounds corney after all we’ve been through but it still meant something to me). My proposal was very spur of the moment but with alot of heart invloved.

Our first weekend away in just over a year, our friends were getting married in Cairns, someone elses wedding always got us talking about our own one day and thats, I guess, what started Shanyn thinking. Our friends had a beautiful ceremony on the beach followed by a gorgeous reception at a restaurant, again, right on the beach, it sort of set the scene for us, lots to eat and drink, we sealed the night with a moonlight dance and a promise to make our special day soon.

The next day was a tedious 4 hour trip home so we headed into Cairns Central shopping centre for a spot of window shopping (only window because I spent a packet making sure our one nights accomodation away was to die for) and also to let our rugrat wear himself out before the trip. I had just flipped through the local Cairns tourism book before we left our room and spotted an add for a beautiful jewellery store, which I always brought to Shanyn’s attention so when the time came he knew what sort of ring I really wanted, he suggested we go and have a look when we got to the shopping centre. After about an hour of wandering around we had completely forgotten about the jewellery store and had focused on what we were going to have for lunch.

Just by chance our rugrat ran off and as I caught him I realised I was standing infront of the store I had seen in the book, Shanyn told me it was a sign (of what I don’t know) and that we should go in and have a look at some rings, I jokingly said that if the ring I really wanted was in the window I would go in, try it on but he would have to buy it for me right there and then. Would you believe it was…… I have always dreamt of having a heart shaped diamond ring and right there in the window infront of me was a single solitare heart shaped diamond ring, well that was it I had it on my finger in seconds.

We both stood there (child in tow) just staring at this ring, the store owner sized my ring finger and told me that it was meant for my finger, we both laughed and then after getting all the details of this ring quietly left (without saying much, I was still in aw of it all) and went and had some lunch. Over lunch we joked about how nice the ring was and how our friends wedding was just perfect, our lunch came out and whilst our son played in his highchair we continued to just chat about how we wanted our wedding to be. Shanyn sat back for a few minutes and was really quiet (unlike him) finally he said “Cate lets do it” which of course took me completely by surprise and I said “Let’s do what?” he said “Let’s get marrried, what do you think?” so I said “Um are you proposing to me now?” he said “Well yes I think I am” holding my hand. Thats when the shock really set in with both of us I think, we practically ran from our seats to pay the lunch bill and back down to the jewellers, the store owner was so excited to see us again and when we told her what had just happened she was even more excited, I tried the ring on one more time just to make sure and then we paid for it.

The only really sad part to this story is that the ring never came home with us, as I needed a different size ring and we were in Cairns not at home the ring had to stay in Cairns, it was to be posted (registered mail of course) back to us when it was ready but now here I stand with my ring safely on my finger (only a few days old) and have been told by Shanyn to organise a babysitter for tomorrow night, he has decided to take me out for a romantic dinner and to ask me a really important question even though I have the ring on my finger. Oh yeah and he did ask my dad permission but I’m still waiting for the bended knee :-)

Queensland, woodend

After taking me on a romantic picnic with a packed lunch, we fed the ducks together. We cuddled on the grass in the nice warm sun, then packed our stuff and went back to the car. I hopped in the car and whilst putting on my seat belt I turned to see my boyfriend down on one knee in the gravel looking very nervous and red. He told me he loved me and wanted to be with me for the rest of his life. Of course I said yes. He had planned to ask me while we were cuddling in the warm sun by the water but was too nervous.

Warren and i had been talking about the possibility of getting married for a while and i was under the impression that he would propose to me on my 30th birthday last year which was in November. Well, he didn’t and i got quite disheartened. Then i was guessing / hoping that he would propose to me at Christmas time and still no proposal. So yet again i got disheartened and was kind of giving up on the marriage idea as just all talk. Then February came around just after our one year anniversary, and we were sitting talking about marriage etc as we had done so many times before, of course i was in my daggiest of clothes no make up etc, and then Warren went really quiet. I knew something was going on as i know him extremely well. I asked him what was wrong and he just looked at me with an anxious look on his face. Again i asked him what the matter was, he then said that he wanted to ask me something but wasnt sure if it was the right time or what id say.

I said just spit it out and ask whatever it is. He then came over and said i want to ask you to marry me. I said to him, well i thought you didnt want to ask me until you had a ring. He then got up and disappeared for about 3-5 mins. He came back with a box in his hand and got down on one knee meanwhile i was crying and smiling at the same time. He opened up the box and took out the ring and asked what i had been longing for for such a long time, “Sharna, will you marry me”. I sobbed even harder as he put the ring on and cuddled me while i let out a huge “YES!!”.

You see Warren had the ring for ages but was waiting for the “right time” and as i pointed out to him if you continually waited for the “right or perfect” time it would never happen. As it turned it out it was the right time for both of us.

We are looking very forward to our wedding next year which cant come around quick enough.

Even months after he  proposed, Warren still every now and then continues to ask me Will you marry me, and each and every time i keep saying Yes….

Marriage Proposal Vanessa and Damon July 27, 2008

Queensland, Brisbane

My boyfriend thought it would be a great idea to propose to whilst sky diving. My boyfriend and I both love to experience thrill seeking activies, unfortunately i have a fear of heights. My fiance informed me that we were to embark upon an exciting adventure whereby we would literally jump out of an aeroplane on our own.

At first I didnt believe that sky diving services would actually allow anybody with limited or no experiece to conduct a solo jump. I was wrong. My wonderful resourceful boyfriend had found a company that did just that. On 1 December 2007, my boyfriend and I got into the car and drove to Gatton. We participated in a training session that consisted of numerous exercises such as how to jump off and land correctly and what to do when you parachute fails.

At this point in time I was ready to run. I did not feel comfortable jumping out of an aeroplane on my own. I relayed my fear to my boyfriend who told me that I would be fine and everything would be okay. I told my boyfriend that I would prefer to do a tandem jump with qualified instructor, however my boyfriend insisted that all would be fine. We climbed into the plane and ascended into the sky. The plane was so small. We looked liked sardines packed in a can. At 3000 feet, the instructor told my boyfriend to prepare for the jump. I was to follow. My heart was pounding. I was secretly hoping that my boyfriend would chicken out, unfortunately he didnt.

The door to the plane was opened and my boyfriend climbed out onto the wing. For those who have never been stupid enough to jump out of a plane, you are required to climb out onto the wing, hang by your arms and let go when directed to. My boyfrined attempted this, however he forgot the hanging part. He fell out of the plane, and as he fell he hit the side of the plane. This sent the plane lurching sideways. The instructors went into panic mode because they thought he had hit his head. I did what girls do best and turned into a sobbing mess. Finally my boyfriend was in sight and his parachute was safely carrying him back to earth. Now it was my turn.

I started to climb out on to the wing, my heart hammering loudly. I looked out and could not distinguish anything from the sky. The instructor beckoned for me to jump, instead I decided it would be safe if i fainted and got out of it. So that is what I did. I fainted. Meanwhile, my boyfriend had organised for a huge sign, Thick PVC to be made, containing the words MARRY ME VANESSA. I was supposed to land on this sign. When he and the staff members realised that I was not jumping, my boyfriend picked up this 5 metre long sign and sprinted 500m across the oval to the landing strip where I would be landing in the plane. The staff members held the sign up for me as the plane touched down.

I groggily stared out the plane door, reading the sign. My boyfriend came to the plane and helped me out. As I stood there in awe, he got down on his knee and presented a beautiful engagement ring. I managed a weak yes to his question and everyone cheered. So this is the story of how we fell in love and decided to become husband and wife.
